Hair Gardens

I'm really on a different path today. Grab your imagination and join me!

Don't we usually try to get the oil OUT of our hair??!!??

The answer is yes, and the answer if no. I hope you are very confused!

Yes, we want clean hair, which we have translated into not oily. However, our scalp is a little hair growing factory and the oil in each follicle is the lubricant - think of pistons in an engine ... even better if you think of water in a garden! These little follicles are private gardens, each with its own prized plant ... one hair.

When you don't water a garden, the plant dies. If a gardener were found purposefully dehydrating his garden soil, while a plant is rooted and in leaf, we would really think him self-destructive of his own efforts.

How is that different from us (hair gardeners) pumping out any and all oil from each follicle? No, I am not advocating we all get used to a hermit-looking mop of hair but I am bringing your attention to what shampoos do to your garden.

Some hair oil, rather scalp oil, is not just beneficial to your hair, it is essential for strong, shiny, healthy hair.

Your first decision is to trash your shampoos and find a natural alternative to these products that strip-mine all the oils from the hair follicles. Gaining in popularity is Ghassoul which contains no surfactants, cleanses gently by absorbing impurities and surface oil, respects protective lipids on the scalp, and does not irritate the sebacious glands. Ghassoul is also highly recommended if you have any dandruff, scalp conditions or sensitive/allergenic skin.

Make it your project for this summer to have a happy hair garden!
