Lice be Gone - Safe, Effective, Natural

Identifying Lice

Well, it was not a pleasant end to the school year when my 12 year old informed me that her 9 year old sister might have brought lice home. I have lived 45 years without this experience and I was not impressed to have this in my house. I looked with caution, not knowing what exactly to look for, and concluded it had been a false alarm.

Ten days later the girls were in full-force de-lousing at their father's house. At the end of those two weeks and back with me, we treated everyone (2 adults + 4 kids) to ensure this would be over and fast! My 12 year old had spent hours on-line learning about these creatures as she had a summer camp to go to and did not want to miss it because of lice.

The chemical options on the market are very toxic to man and beast. They were not even up for consideration. As in all things, nature holds the secrets for our wellbeing.

Lice are expulsed with lavender essential oil while tea tree essential oil kills them (gasses them actually). When applied with the viscous castor oil, lice cannot cling to the hair and scalp. A fine tooth lice comb can be purchase at the drug store. I found two models and only 1 of which seemed to do the trick - it resembled a miniature afro-pick (plastic handle with long metal comb teeth very close together). The one that did not do any good for us was a small piece of metal with slits cut into it along one edge - perhaps good for extremely short hair.

We found an effective natural treatment that cleared us all in under 1 week: With a towel on your shoulders, apply enough warmed Palm'Hydra Hair & Scalp to ensure scalp is coated but not dripping all over. Massage treatment into scalp and cover head with a shower cap for 30 minutes. Rinse and wash*

Check for signs of lice mornings and evenings. Treatment should be repeated 2 days later. Continue checking for any signs of lice morning and evening for a week. Repeat treatment if you still see signs of lice or if re-infestation occurs. Looks carefully as mild dandruff will result from this experience and last for a few days. It can be innocently mis-identified as signs of lice.

All bedding was laundered in hot water and every morning thereafter (for 7-9 days) pillows with pillow cases were placed in dryer on high heat for 15 minutes. All the stuffed animals filled some large plastic bags for the week as they will die in a few days without a host.

To sooth isolated itching shake a few drops of pure tea tree oil onto localized area and massage into scalp.

*Washing Head: A tea tree oil shampoo can be used, look for it in a healthfood store. Best results are obtained when tea tree essential oil is added to 4oz water prior to adding dry Ghassoul to make a wash-paste. Use more water for longer hair.
