Winter Skin Care Solutions

"The skin is the largest organ in the body, and you need to moisturize it in the winter", advises Neera Agarwal-Antal, MD, dermatologist, Hudson Dermatology (Ohio).

Look for a nourishing moisturizer that do not contain:

- glycerin: only serves to make an impenetrable barrier on your skin
- synthetic scents: can irritate the skin and are usually alcohol
based which further dry out your skin

A glycerine based cream can prevent any nourishing elements in the cream from penetrating into your skin.

Cold pressed, pure, therapeutic grade Castor oil is the most hydrating of all plant oils. Palm'Hydra creams are rich in castor oil and create a protective layer on the skin by naturally improving the texture and health of the skin. It also has a natural ability to calm the inflammation and redness that can present from exposure to the cold weather.

Your lips have skin but there are no oil glands there, leaving them susceptible to dryness and chapping. The American Academy of Dermatology suggest you:

- don't lick your lips - this dries them out even more
- cover them up: with a protective balm and a scarf

Consider having a humidifier running during the months you are heating inside your home and continue to stay hydrated by drinking plenty of water during the day.

Castor oil helps your lips too! Palma Lips blend 30% castor oil with wonderful shea butter, and unprocessed pure beeswax - no petrochemicals (parafin) or preservatives. I keep one in my purse, at my desk, in my car, and in my coat pocket!
