Thinking out of the box

One of my favorite movies, especially during this holiday season, is Shop Around the Corner. It stars Margaret Sullavan as Klara Novak and Jimmy Stewart (one of my favorite actors!) as Mr. Kralik. Klara has a love interest from the personal ads whom she corresponds with by letter. Mr. Kralik is all business.

In life, how well do you know the people you work with, even those you live with? My experience and experiences would favour the vote that we often miss seeing and hearing the heart and soul of these people as well as what motivates them, what inspires them, what brings them joy, and what pain/fear are they cradling in their gut.

We do a very good job at defining, in our own terms, these personalities so we can chose how to address them, or not. We do have a knack for slotting people as "this type..." or "that type..." when we, for the most part, do not really take time with that individual to see through their eyes.

The saying we've heard many times ... "do not judge or criticize a person until you've walked a mile in their moccasins" is actually more oft forgotten than applied.

In the movie Shop Around the Corner, Mr. Kralik and Miss Novak certainly are not applying it. They make up their minds regarding each other's true-self and make choices accordingly. I won't be a spoiler and tell you any more because it is truly an excellent movie and I hope you now get a chance to see it!

I will suggest you reflect upon the idea, however. Really take time and the heart to see with different eyes and hear with different ears; the workings of the inside lives of those you live with and perhaps those you work with. There is a world of hurting and lonely people around us, many of whom desperately spend much of their lives struggling to run/hide from it themselves.

No human has mastered perfection and I don't expect one ever will. So, everyone is free game.

And for yourself... dance like no one is watching ... in your heart, soul, and in the daily grind of your mind. It is amazing how it appeases, sometimes for only a moment, the most unwanted aspects we run to avoid. You deserve it!

I wish you and yours much love, health, and abundance during this holiday season and for your hearts and lives to be transformed during the course of this new year, dated 2009.
