Lavender - Pt. 1

Category: Essential Oils
Posted: 2008-03-27 21:32

Today is brought to you by . . .

LAVENDER - (Lavandula angustifolia) is the most versatile of all essential oils. Therapeutic-grade lavender is highly regarded for the good health of your skin. Also, lavender has been clinically evaluated for its relaxing effects. It may be used to cleanse cuts, bruises and skin irritations.

As a fragrance, it is calming, relaxing, and balancing - both physically and emotionally.

There is a reasonably long list of applications/uses. Here are a few to get you started!

* Rub Lavender oil on the feet for a calming effect on the body.

* Rub a drop of Lavender oil on your palms and smooth on your pillow to help you sleep.

* Put a drop of Lavender oil on a bee sting or insect bite to stop itching and reduce swelling.

* Put 2-3 drops of Lavender oil on a minor burn to decrease pain.

* Drop Lavender oil on a cut to stop the bleeding.

* Mix several drops of Lavender oil with Palma Christi castor oil and use topically on eczema and dermatitis.

* To alleviate the symptoms of motion sickness, place a drop of Lavender oil on the end of the tongue or around the naval or behind the ears.

I'm building the rest of the list, so come back to find out more!

Foot Massage !

If you have NEVER had someone rub your feet, you don't know what you're missing!! At first I was concerned about my socks having been on my feet all day (you know what I mean!) when my sweetie gently took one foot in hands and proceeded to share with me one of the brighter sides of life on earth. Not any more! Now I toss my feet into his lap whenever I get the chance! I love getting a foot massage, and am learning to enjoy giving them too.

You don't have to be a studied professional to rub your sweetie's feet. You just have to want to bring a smile to his/her face! Morning, noon, or night, the time is always right to have the tootsies cared for.

We all like to research things and "know" what we are doing so we can master things on the first go ... so, I've included a little Crash Course in Foot Massage for you to get started!

Socks-on is an option, especially if you don't know the person well or if you don't wish to become more personal than it already will be when rubbing someone's feet.

For the more adventurous, a nice massage oil or Palm'Hydra Body cream will help with a satiny slide and with less friction the massage will be all that more enjoyable.

In ancient times it was considered to be the lowest of the low to have someone wash your feet. You wouldn't even ask your slave to do this. Partly due to the fact that they either went barefoot or had thin, open sandals and animal business and dust and dirt were the order of the day. In Chrisitan tradition, this is why it was so remarkable that Jesus washed the feet of his disciples (12 followers).
