Stories have circulated in and out of conversations for close to 15 years now. For my family, we stopped using fluoridated toothpaste about 17 years ago. My convictions were soon re-enforced when our pediatrician asked me where she could buy fluoride-free toothpaste for her family!
Beyond the consideration that fluoride kills brain cells it tends to be disregarded because of the amounts needed to be dangerous. Fluoride on our teeth is helpful to reduce cavities. However, once consumed it is a poison in our bodies. Young children have a great tendency to not spit after brushing. Let us not forget the mucus membranes in our mouth absorb elements into our bloodstream - thus affecting your health from the OutsideIn. Some tubes contain a warning to call poison control if a young child swallows a pea-size amount of fluoridated toothpaste.
Health officials do not come clean on this subject and with fluoride being added to water and some of our foods there is, now, greater cause for concern.
I hope you take a moment to listen to this Australian news-review on the subject: Google Video
There are many sources of a different type of fluoride that can be good for both our dental health as well as our overall physical health.
